The question is How do people earn money from YouTube? There are tons of ways but I think 5 following methods is the best one:
1. YouTube partnership
2. Join an MCN (Multi-channel network).
3.Monetize your videos with Google AdSense
4. Affiliate marketing
5. Make subscribers =>
1. With YouTube partnership, you are dependent on how many people view and click the ads on your videos. Usually, you'll make $1-$5 per thousand views.
2. If you join an MCN, then sometimes you'll be guaranteed a dollar amount per thousand views, or split a percentage of revenue made after YouTube's cut.
How you're paid:
If you are a YouTube partner currently, then you'll see all your revenue through Adsense. In Adsense, you can choose how you want your payment sent, which usually is through wire transfer.
If however you are a part of an MCN, then they will decide how you are paid (usually PayPal). Unless of course you are a huge channel in which you will probably get to decide. I've personally been paid by check, wire transfer, and PayPal in 3 different networks.
3. Monetize your videos with Google AdSense (most of the YouTubers do this). You'll earn a little over $1.5/1,000 views in average, so you would need at least 100,000 views to make a decent sum - $150-$200 per video. This method is great when you have millions of subscribers and you make + 1,000,000 views/video (+$2,000/video).

Affiliate marketing - place affiliate link/referral links in your description - at least 1-2% of visitors will go check it out and from that 1- %, 10-20% will eventually purchase/signup to something that you offer. If you would earn $5 commission for each affiliate sale and you make 10,000 views/month/video this would result to = 10,000 x 0.02 x 0.1 x $5 = $100. (just a simple example).
5. Make subscribers => place in your video (annotations) and in your description a free offer to your signup list (lead magnet) to get subscribers. Email marketing is one of the most frequently used ways of making money today. I also use that (check out my profile for more details about this). If 3% of visitors (views) go to check out your offer and 30% subscribe (that's my average conversion from visitors), you would get 300 subscribers for every 10,000 views (not bad!). From a list of 1,000 people, 1-2% will always purchase your offer.
Of course, you can combine all 3 at once. The only 2 things which should concern you are
