How to make money with ADSENSE

First, I want to mention here These are some real techniques, not tricks and this is my own strategies. Find a niche keyword that gets around 1,000 Google searches a month according to the Google Adwords Keyword Tool. The keyword has to have an exact match top level domain (TLD) extension available (com, net, or org).

Register the exact match TLD.

Install Wordpress

Write 3-5 original articles around 500 words in length. The articles are about the main keyword and derivatives.

Wait.

Once (if) the site starts getting traffic, I put up Adsense ads.

To directly answer your question, yes: build a site, get traffic, get clicks. But I do some specific things to try to get the odds in my favor.

Even so, I only run about a 20% success rate. And most of those average around $1 a day. So far I've gotten 3 breakout sites that make $5+ a day.

I actually build and optimize websites and this is a standard approach. There are other tactics you can employ that would further improve your chances. (FYI the site content itself can only earn so much of a ranking. if you're trying to get a floodgate of traffic, there has to be relevant content on your site, complemented by articles and directory submissions elsewhere on the internet to legitimize the keywords you're emphasizing). Like if you wanted to sell ads for electronics, for example, having a host of pages that speak about electronics are great, but having that, plus a blog somewhere that links to your site, or actually having a purpose other than collecting ad revenue helps too. The point is not to try to make a big splash when you cannonball, it's how many other sites you get wet. Cheers.

For professionals, it isn't a "generate and paste" task. It takes the time to do A/B testing with different ad slot sizes, formats, colors, placing, etc. This all depends on the niche, the amount of traffic, etc. I suspect he waits to see if the traffic will support ads, and if not, he sells the site off.

You can just copy and paste in ad codes, but tailored ads will convert far better in the long run.

Basically, what I learned to do is to make a site on something you're interested in. It has to be a really focused niche, if its broad to any extent you'll have trouble getting good keyword rankings in Google, which will account for 80% of your traffic.

Your site should be at least 50 pages to start, and update from time to time. You'll need to learn HTML and CSS to make a site design-wise, but I recommend learning basic PHP for functionality purposes.

Guest blog on large sites in your overall niche. There are tons of ways to promote, but what I've found is that as long as your site has good content and you're mindful of good SEO practices, you should be doing quite well within a matter of months (starts very slow). On to the next site then!

***50 unique pages. You DO NOT!!! want to copy-paste random Wikipedia crap, for example.

This is pretty much the basics, but will be extremely hard for another starting user to make $40/day with. A lot of people will get discouraged at making $5/day... but then there are the couple that will keep pushing and reap the benefits.

It's a lot more complicated than setting up a 50-page site with a couple dips in the promotion and getting $40/day 6 months later, but in the end, this is pretty much spot-on for the beginning stages.

As mentioned, Wordpress, Drupal... all make this stuff ridiculously easy. You can make a site and literally replicate it 100 times in ONE DAY if you know what you are doing. This is not the best way to go ahead and start off, especially since you're essentially creating garbage content, but I would recommend Wordpress with every atom in my body. The amount of plugins available are so ridiculous it's not even funny. There's a plugin for EVERYTHING. Automatic twitter posts, automatic Wordpress-to-Facebook posting, etc.

Just read around these sites:

Wordpress.org
forums.digitalpoint.com
seomoz.org
searchengineland.com

Grab purely the basics from each of these and then mold it into your own style. It takes time, though... I don't really like the cookie-cutter sites where you just keep re-doing the same crap and hope to become a success, but if you have a passion for something, you can make extra income on the side. Then when you get a hang of the basic functions (you can learn it all in a weekend) you can 'plot'. I always suggest starting with one actual site to fully grasp just what it actually takes to get a flow of natural traffic. Right when you start learning what it takes to get LEGIT organic traffic (from Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc.) THEN you can try to understand how to create these basic sites and hope money can be generated through them.

It's one of those things where you must learn in the beginning but then it becomes simple as hell. Of course, simple on paper, but it does take some effort to start turning the wheel a bit.

I don't think you quite grasp what this kid has done. Everybody downplays internet marketing success; most people quit because they "only" make $5 or $10 or $40 per day. The fact that you can make anything puts him ahead of most, and all he has to do now is scale his operations - new sites, new niches; rinse and repeat.

Keep up the good work, kid.
